So you want stay or go?

It seems to me that the people (illegal immigrants) protesting the immigration reform bills now being debated in the Senate have got their flag waving instructions a little confused. Why in the world would you be waving the flag of the country that you fled??? Instead you should be waving the flag of the country that you want to stay in, right? If you love your country of birth so much why did you leave and why don't you go back? Stupid question I know... Check out Michelle Malkin for much more...

Teddy Roosevelt knew...

President Teddy Roosevelt's thoughts on the issue of immigration. It's from his letter to the American Defense Society in 1919, 10 years after his presidency. "In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the Engli...

Icon of what?

I thought that this picture represented New Orleans incompetent handling of the Katrina disaster, but the AP feels differently ; Starved for cash, the New Orleans school district is taking a long shot and hoping to sell its flooded, unsalvageable school buses on eBay. Some submerged to their roofs in the black flood waters, the yellow school buses were widely photographed in the days after Hurricane Katrina and have become an icon of the city's devastated school system. The school system, oh... I guess using them to get people the hell out of N.O. was not a real problem. Ebay?

Not so spontaneous

The MSM has again missed a chance to actually report news instead of promoting an agenda. It appears that the seemingly spontaneous protests across the country against illegal immigration reform were promoted for weeks by Spanish speaking media outlets. And who breaks the story? The AP : (AP) LOS ANGELES The marching orders were clear: Carry American flags and pack the kids, pick up your trash and wear white for peace and for effect. Many of the 500,000 people who crammed downtown Los Angeles on Saturday to protest legislation that would make criminals out of illegal immigrants learned where, when and even how to demonstrate from the Spanish-language media. For English-speaking America, the mass protests in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities over the past few days have been surprising for their size and seeming spontaneity. But they were organized, promoted or publicized for weeks by Spanish-language radio hosts and TV anchors as a demonstration of Hispanic pride and power. "This w...

Can't make this stuff up...

Just saw this over at JustOneMinute , un-freaking-believable! I will summarize... So in Oregon gasoline prices and gas taxes have been pushing people to buy these new hybrid cars that are more fuel efficient. This has had the affect of reducing the collection of gas taxes, upsetting some people in state government. Estimates show that by 2025 at the latest, state and federal fuel efficiency measures to reduce oil consumption and emissions of heat-trapping gases like carbon dioxide will cut per-mile gas costs by 15 percent to 25 percent, according to the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies. Less conservative projections suggest that those cost reductions could happen by 2015 or earlier, depending on the pace of sales of fuel-efficient cars. Reduced consumption would undoubtedly result in a huge hit to the tax dollars collected by many states, which rely on gas taxes to pay for most highway costs — particularly states on the West and East Coasts. In Oregon, for examp...

The economy is so bad that....

Best job market in 5 years for grads U.S. college graduates are facing the best job market since 2001, with business, computer, engineering, education and health care grads in highest demand, a report by an employment consulting firm showed on Monday. Good news out of Iran...

There are some sane voices in Iran it seems, no wonder the administration is stoking the dissenting flames; TEHRAN, March 14 — Just weeks ago, the Iranian government's combative approach toward building a nuclear program produced rare public displays of unity here. Now, while the top leaders remain resolute in their course, cracks are opening both inside and outside the circles of power over the issue. Some people in powerful positions have begun to insist that the confrontational tactics of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have been backfiring, making it harder instead of easier for Iran to develop a nuclear program. This week, the United Nations Security Council is meeting to take up the Iranian nuclear program. That referral and, perhaps more important, Iran's inability so far to win Russia's unequivocal support for its plans have empowered critics of Mr. Ahmadinejad, according to political analysts with close ties to the government. One senior Iranian official, who asked ...

So where were you, Russ?

Apparently Russ Feingold is very upset about Democrats "cowering" in the face of low poll numbers facing the President. So tell me Russ, where were you when Sen Frist tried to call for a vote on the resolution? Where were you when Sen Arlen Specter wanted to debate your resolution? You ran for the hills with the rest of the cowering dems... Wisconsin Sen. Russell Feingold accused fellow Democrats on Tuesday of cowering rather than joining him on trying to censure President Bush over domestic spying. "Democrats run and hide" when the administration invokes the war on terrorism, Feingold told reporters.

And while the media waits for the civil war to start...

And while the media focus their attention primarily on the non-existent civil war and who Dick Cheney may shoot next (David Gregory waiting patiently), stories like this go relatively unnoticed; Some Sunnis Targeting al-Qaida in Iraq BAGHDAD, Iraq - Residents reported curious declarations hanging from mosque walls and market stalls recently in Ramadi, the Sunni Muslim insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad. The fliers said Iraqi militants had turned on and were killing foreign al-Qaida fighters, their one-time allies. . . . Al-Jadaan, the Anbar tribal leader, looked confidently to the future and — if his prediction comes true — what likely will be a hero's role in the eyes of the U.S. military. "Under my leadership and that of our brothers in other tribes, we are getting close to the shelter of this terrorist," al-Jadaan said of al-Zarqawi. "We will capture him soon."

Don't these people have jobs?

Patriot Act renewed 89-10

Even Harry "We killed the Patriot Act" Reid voted for it. Read all about it here in one of the most biased AP articles I think I have ever read . The 89-10 vote marked a bright spot in President Bush's troubled second term as his approval ratings dipped over the war in Iraq and his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina. For now, Bush and his Republican allies savored a significant victory. For months, their tough-on-terror image has been tarnished by the revelation that the president authorized a secret domestic wiretapping program. The report in December gave Democrats ammunition for their charge that the Bush administration had run amok in its zeal to root out terrorists. Not much of a secret anymore, thanks NY Times. And for the zillionth time, it is not a domestic spying program. It tracks calls originating or ending overseas and is between suspected terrorists. What is so hard to understand about that?
