As Live Earth approaches...

...a Chicago Sun-Times story says Gore is an alarmist; Many of the assertions Gore makes in his movie, ''An Inconvenient Truth,'' have been refuted by science, both before and after he made them. Gore can show sincerity in his plea for scientific honesty by publicly acknowledging where science has rebutted his claims. For example, Gore claims that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and global warming is to blame. Yet the September 2006 issue of the American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate reported, "Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame. " Imagine that...I wonder if Gore will address this at the concerts. I think not.

The Gore-acle is coming!

This will be fun if it happens; ENVIRONMENT Al Gore visit postponed Former US vice president Al Gore will not be able to make it to Taiwan this September to address the issue of global warming, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Tien Chiu-chin (田秋堇) said yesterday. Tien, who invited Gore to visit Taiwan to promote awareness on global warming, told reporters yesterday that she received an e-mail from the Harry Walker Agency, which has the exclusive right to arrange Gore's speeches, saying that Gore had canceled all his scheduled events in the next six months. The visit to Taiwan had been postponed to next year, she added. Tien said the reason for the cancelation was that Gore was considering a presidential bid. Powered by ScribeFire .

MSNBC is clueless

When is a terror plot not a terror plot ...when you watch MSNBC; Terror Plot Foiled: MSNBC Ignores It While CNN and Fox News Channel were in breaking news mode early this morning, broadcasting continuous live coverage of the London bomb scare, MSNBC was acting like nothing had happened. MSNBC's First Look, live at 5am and repeated at 5:30am, barely made mention of the developing story. The top story was yesterday's immigration defeat in Congress. Anchor Joel Connable was finally forced to mention the terror plot once, when tossing to CNBC Europe for a market update. "The discovery of what police in London are calling an explosive device is having a big effect on the markets there," he said. But viewers wanting to know more about the "discovery" had to turn to CNN or FNC... Powered by ScribeFire .

Tommy can you hear me!

Yesterday Sen Harry Reid shared a phone call he got from "Tommy" who had a Mexican illegal friend. He wanted to know if he, "Tommy", should be in favor of the immigration bill. Harry said of course he should because then "Tommy" wouldn't have to be afraid of being arrested. Huh? Tommy wouldn't have to be afraid? Anyway... Laura Ingraham is on the hunt for "Tommy" ! The NY Times says its Bush's immigration policy...

...when in reality it was the McCain/Kennedy immigration bill that Bush supported. But of course why bypass another opportunity to pin another failure on Bush. WASHINGTON, June 28 — President Bush’s effort to overhaul the nation’s immigration policy, a cornerstone of his domestic agenda, collapsed Thursday in the Senate, with little prospect that it can be revived before Mr. Bush leaves office in 19 months. Bipartisan indeed. When you look at the second cloture vote, 26% voting in favor of cloture were Republicans and 30% voting against cloture were Democrats. But the NY Times says; Rejecting the president’s last-minute pleas, it voted, 53 to 46, to turn back a motion to end debate and move toward final passage. Supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to close the debate. Mr. Bush placed telephone calls to lawmakers throughout the morning. But members of his party abandoned him in droves, with just 12 of the 49 Senate Republicans sticking by him on the important procedural vo

An example of the media is so easily duped... Rage Boy!

Final score: 125-19

A story on MSNBC reports that of 144 journalists donations, 125 of them were to Democrats. Howard Kurtz writes; The news outlets that don't ban donations seem to regard them as a matter of personal preference, like joining the PTA. But they seriously underestimate the public distrust of journalists, which is only fueled by such practices. Those who work for opinion magazines or are employed as commentators have a stronger case that their views are no secret. But there is still an important distinction between rhetorically supporting a candidate and helping bankroll one. The scorecard -- 125 of 144 donations to Democrats -- provides fresh ammunition to those who say the press has a liberal tilt. It's hard to argue you don't favor one party when you've just coughed up cash for that party. Powered by ScribeFire .

Cameron Diaz finally figures it out...

What an imbecile... Cameron Diaz apologized Sunday for carrying a bag with a political slogan that evoked painful memories in Peru. The voice of Princess Fiona in the animated “Shrek” films visited the Incan city of Machu Picchu in Peru’s Andes on Friday carrying an olive green bag emblazoned with a red star and the words “Serve the People” printed in Chinese, perhaps Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong’s most famous political slogan. The bags are marketed as fashion accessories in some world capitals, but in Peru the slogan evokes memories of the Maoist Shining Path insurgency that fought the government in the 1980s and early 1990s in a bloody conflict that left nearly 70,000 people dead. “I sincerely apologize to anyone I may have inadvertently offended. The bag was a purchase I made as a tourist in China and I did not realize the potentially hurtful nature of the slogan printed on it,” Diaz said in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press. Couric gets the press, but Williams loses more viewers

All the attention paid to Couric's tough start at CBS has overshadowed what's been going on at NBC. In Couric's first 39 weeks at CBS, she's lost 287,000 viewers from the average of a year ago, a drop of 4 percent from predecessor Bob Schieffer's audience. At the same time, "Nightly News" lost 533,000 viewers, or 5 percent, Nielsen said . In Williams' first three months after taking over from Tom Brokaw in December 2004, "Nightly News" averaged 10.79 million viewers. In the past three months, it's been 7.66 million. To be fair, the nightly news audience traditionally drops when warm weather arrives, and it has been a slow news period. Powered by ScribeFire .

Fairness Doctine

On Fox News Sunday; WALLACE: Let me bring in Senator Feinstein. Oklahoma Senator Inhofe says that he overheard Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton three years ago complaining about talk radio and saying that there should be a legislative fix. Both of them deny it ever happened. But let me ask you about yourself. Do you have a problem with talk radio, and would you consider reviving the fairness doctrine, which would require broadcasters to put on opposing points of view? FEINSTEIN: Well, in my view, talk radio tends to be one-sided. It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It's explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information . Will the Fairness Doctrine force Democrats to participate in debates on Fox News? Powered by ScribeFire .

Nearly as unpopular?

From the Washington Post; President Bush has company at the bottom of the polls: The Democratic-led Congress is nearly as unpopular as he is. Lets look at the real numbers shall we? Percentage confidence in; The presidency is 25% The TV news media is 23% The newspapers is 22% Congress is at 14% So lets see, 14% is nearly as unpopular as 25%. Neither number is much to shout about but when you have an agenda to hype the Dems chances in 2008 well you gotta go with what you can. Powered by ScribeFire .

Commute Libby says Richard Cohen of the WaPo

As Fitzgerald worked his wonders, threatening jail and going after government gossips with splendid pluck, many opponents of the Iraq war cheered. They thought -- if "thought" can be used in this context -- that if the thread was pulled on who had leaked the identity of Valerie Plame to Robert D. Novak, the effort to snooker an entire nation into war would unravel and this would show . . . who knows? Something. For some odd reason, the same people who were so appalled about government snooping, the USA Patriot Act and other such threats to civil liberties cheered as the special prosecutor weed-whacked the press, jailed a reporter and now will send a previously obscure government official to prison for 30 months. ...I have come to hate the war and I cannot approve of lying under oath -- not by Scooter, not by Bill Clinton, not by anybody. But the underlying crime is absent, the sentence is excessive and the investigation should not have been conducted in the first plac

Live Earth to be as green as green can be green...

Live Earth shows aim to set new green standard Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:46AM EDT By Ray Waddell NASHVILLE (Billboard) - It would play right into the hands of critics if the seven Live Earth concerts to be staged worldwide July 7 were to come off in an unfriendly environmental way. And it's probably fair that no concerts in history will be more closely monitored for how well they manage power and waste. Live Earth producers want the world to watch what they do. "We want to make the concerts themselves part of the solution," Live Earth's Yusef Robb says. "What we're working very hard to do is something that has never been done before: establish a new green event standard that Live Earth will not only follow but hopefully future live events will follow as well." The concerts will be built "from the ground up to be as green as possible," Robb says. "If there is a choice between a dirty lightbulb or a greener lightbulb to light the stage, we're w

3 days in jail?

I am sure a man would have gotten the same sentence. Former substitute teacher who had student's baby gets five years' probation by The Associated Press CLEVELAND - A former substitute teacher who became pregnant during an affair with a 17-year-old high school football captain was sentenced to three days in jail and five years of probation. Christine Scarlett, 40, pleaded guilty May 11 to five felony charges - three counts of sexual battery and two counts of disseminating obscene materials to a juvenile. The charges carried a potential 17 years in prison. Judge Dick Ambrose said he ordered probation on Tuesday because Scarlett had no previous criminal record and has obligations as a mother. She has a 3-year-old son from the relationship and two other children with her husband. "This court has no desire to punish the child who is the innocent victim of this relationship," Ambrose said. Scarlett was placed in handcuffs after Ambrose ordered her to begin her jail sentenc

Harry Reid supports the troops...

...he just has a funny way of showing it; Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Marine Gen. Peter Pace, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, “incompetent” during an interview Tuesday with a group of liberal bloggers, a comment that was never reported. Reid made similar disparaging remarks about Army Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said several sources familiar with the interview. Wasn't Petraeus confirmed 98-0? What's more outrageous, Reid's statements or the fact that the mainstream media routinely ignores statements like this. Has anyone reported this? NY Times, WP, cable news? Powered by ScribeFire .

Freedom of Some of the Press

Angelina Jolie's Freedom of Press, On Her Terms Angelina Jolie's true colors came out Wednesday as she promoted a film about freedom of the press and then tried to censor all her interviews. Jolie is touting press freedom these days, playing the widow of murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in a new movie called "A Mighty Heart." But Jolie turns out to be a mighty hypocrite when it comes to her own freedom of the press. Her lawyer required all journalists to sign a contract before talking to her, and Jolie instructed publicists at first to ban FOX News from the red carpet of her premiere. Ironically, Wednesday night's premiere of the excellent Michael Winterbottom-directed film was meant to support an organization called Reporters Without Borders. Jolie, however, did everything she could to clamp down on the press and control it. Powered by ScribeFire .

Saving fans of Rush...

Broward may cancel deal with radio station because it airs Rush Limbaugh By Scott Wyman South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted June 13 2007 Rush Limbaugh has long been a thorn in the side of liberals, but now, because of him, some Democratic politicians don't even want to join with a local radio station to broadcast hurricane information. Radio station WIOD, AM 610, has been the official channel for emergency information from Broward County government for the past year. The County Commission, all Democrats, balked at renewing the deal Tuesday, unable to stomach the station also being home to Limbaugh's talk show. Commissioner Stacy Ritter said she did not want to support a station that's out of step with area politics. Ritter, a Democratic stalwart in the state Legislature before being elected to county office, cited talk shows hosted by Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and WIOD's partnership with Fox News . "They have every right to speak, but we don't have to do busines

I apologize for suing you!

Isaiah Washington used the other "f" word (I didn't know there were two until today) to describe a fellow gay Grey's Anatomy cast member several months back...and what does he get for bowing to the Hollywood elite demands to remain on the show, FIRED! Particularly mystifying to the star is the timing of his ouster — months after he revived the F-word controversy by repeating the slur backstage at the Golden Globes. "If they wanted to fire him," Bragman asks, "why didn't they fire him when [the incident] happened? Why did they say, 'Here's what you need to do if you want to come back… ' and then, when he did everything that was asked of him, he still gets fired. Why do you treat somebody like that?" "If you made a mistake, you acknowledged the mistake, you went into counseling, you met with the groups, you did the PSA, you did everything that was asked of you, and then they still kick you in the gut? How would you feel?" W

Rolling Stone printed on brittle paper...

A fabulous idea since RS hasn't been worth the paper its printed on for quite some time anyway... Rolling Stone Finding Out Green Isn’t Green Enough By ANDREW ADAM NEWMAN Published: June 11, 2007 Just about every major magazine has made some sort of nod to global warming, and Rolling Stone plans to do so in its June 28 issue: on top of the requisite interview with former Vice President Al Gore and an essay by the environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the magazine will start printing on paper that is said to have less of a negative impact on the environment. Rolling Stone is devoting its June 28 issue to global warming. But as Rolling Stone and others try to be green, they draw criticism from environmentalists who think that if this is walking the walk, it is doing so with a pronounced limp. Rolling Stone will be printed on what it calls “carbon neutral paper,” because it is made through a process that the magazine claims adds no carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. The paper, which

Denver to become green leader, Whoop-dee-doo

Guess I won't be moving to Denver anytime soon... Denver targets global warming Goal is equivalent of taking 500,000 vehicles off road By Stuart Steers, Rocky Mountain News June 11, 2007 Denver is gearing up to fight global warming, and residents may soon be asked to make personal sacrifices to help save the planet. The new plan is aimed at making Denver a national leader in reducing gas emissions that have been linked to global warming, giving a major push to alternative energy, stepping up recycling and changing building codes to encourage energy conservation. But the proposal also contains some ideas that may be unpopular, such as penalizing heavy users of electricity and natural gas and basing auto insurance premiums on the number of miles traveled. The ambitious goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4.4 million metric tons by 2020, the equivalent of eliminating two small coal-fired power plants or taking 500,000 cars off the road. Traffic congestion fee in NY

Politicians find more and more ways to take money out of people's pockets... now we have the pay-to-drive method. NYC Mayor Cites 'Inconvenient Truths' of Congestion, Pollution in Pushing Traffic Fee Plan NEW YORK (AP) -- Traffic congestion and devastating pollution are among the "inconvenient truths" of our age and could be eased by imposing pay-to-drive fees on Manhattan motorists, Mayor Michael Bloomberg told a legislative panel Friday . Bloomberg, who normally takes the subway to work, told the lawmakers he got stuck in traffic three times on his way to the special hearing. Boy, I hope I'm not on that list... So hold on, if the illegal aliens are already Americans, then why are we even bothering with this Immigration Reform bill? Unbelievable!

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Northern California woman sued the online dating service eHarmony on Thursday, alleging it discriminates against gays, lesbians and bisexuals. Linda Carlson said she tried to use the Internet site in February to meet a woman but could not based on her sexual orientation. When Carlson wrote to eHarmony to complain, the company refused to change its policy, according to the lawsuit filed on her behalf in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The lawsuit claims that by only offering to find a compatible match for men seeking women or women seeking men, the company was violating state law barring discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. “Such outright discrimination is hurtful and disappointing for a business open to the public in this day and age,” Carlson said in a statement. The lawsuit names Pasadena-based eHarmony.com Inc., company founder Neil Clark Warren and his wife Marylyn, the company’s former vice president, as defendants. It seek
