Simply disgraceful
From The Weekly Standard a quote from an unnamed Senator that also appeared on The Politico website on Friday;
I guess someone forgot to tell Sen Lantos;
Actually Senator Lantos, it's by law, a law that people like you wrote and passed, that Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Ryan Crocker are forced to appear before your pathetic joke of a committee. In fact you requested that he appear. When it was reported that Petraeus may not deliver his report in person you and your ilk demanded that he come to Washington. The White House immediately agreed and he now appears before you to be accused of lying to you. You sir are a disgrace and an embarassment.

And consider this comment by a Democratic senator from Friday's Politico: "'No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,' noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. 'The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.'

``The administration has sent you here today to convince the members of these two committees and the Congress that victory is at hand,” Lantos said. “With all due respect to you, I must say I don't buy it.”
