Hoyer: Republicans Continue Johnny-One-Note Energy Policy of the Past

WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today:

“This week, Republicans are doing nothing but pushing the failed Johnny-one-note policies of the past.

“Democrats agree that we need increased domestic drilling, and we
have pushed oil companies to explore the 311 million acres already
available to them, especially the 68 million acres, 33 million of which
is in the OCS, where they hold leases but are not drilling. We have
also encouraged increased exploration in Alaska. Republicans rejected
both policies though they would have increased domestic oil supply.

“Where Democrats, and most Americans, really differ with
Republicans is our focus on alternative energy. As one of their own
colleagues said recently, Republicans only pay ‘lip service’ to
alternative energy, but they are not truly interested in it.
Alternative energy is how we will end our reliance on foreign oil and
bring down energy prices for American consumers. If we followed the
Republican plan, our nation would continue to be at the mercy of other
nations for our energy supply and economic strength.

“Democrats will continue to pursue comprehensive energy solutions
that will lower prices and end our reliance on foreign oil while
creating jobs and strengthening our economy.”
