The media continues its undying desire to totally trash the US military by continually reporting uncorroborated stories of alleged abuse at Gitmo and other US facilities. One Guantanamo prisoner told a military panel that American troops beat him so badly he wets his pants now. Another detainee claimed U.S. troops stripped prisoners in Afghanistan and intimidated them with dogs so they would admit to militant activity. GOOD! The first paragraph of the AP's report. I know, why don't we just let them all go as long as they promise never to kill any American again. Ok? It really does become annoying after a while..

So the much touted "Memorandum of Understanding" that the so-called Gang of 14 concocted has already broken down with the Dems now blocking a vote on John Bolton's nomination as US Ambassador to the UN. Is anybody really surprised? When are the Republicans going to learn that you cannot trust the Dems. When are they going to starting acting like the majority party. There was a cloture vote yesterday that was 56-42, 4 votes shy of the 60 required to end debate and move to the final vote. Sen. Harry Reid actually said: "We're not here to filibuster Bolton, we're here to get information on Bolton," Reid said. I guess that they don't want to use the "F" word. They did reach an understanding a few days ago on filibusters, didn't they? So much for the new era of bipartisanship that Reid predicted . hey want more information? Living in the NY metro area I get to listen to Sid Rosenberg on WFAN in NY, and so does the rest of the country get to see him on MSNBC on weekday mornings. Sid knows his sports, he is a die-hard Met fan but he finally went to far with this ridicules comment about Kylie Minogue's breast cancer diagnosis that I actually heard live when he said it, I cringed and knew it was not good... "She won't look so pretty when she's bald with one t--" He also has in the past said some other stupid things about Serena and Venus Willians, tennis players and more...

After a cloture vote of 81-18, a vote to end debate and move on to the confirmation vote, Judge Priscilla Owen was confirmed by a 56-43 vote. Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid on May 19th said; In case after case, Justice Owen's record marks her as a judge willing to make law from the bench rather than follow the language and intent of the legislature or judicial precedent. If she makes law from the bench the Dems should love her. Two Dems did vote for her while 1 Republican voted against. The outcome really is no surprise, she always had the votes even before this filibuster fiasco. An interesting note is the Sen Robert Byrd voted for Owen along with Sen. Mary Landreau. A total of 14 moderate ( read squeamish ) Senators have reached a compromise that avoids a vote on the Constitutional option that would have guaranteed a yes/no vote on all of President Bush's judicial nominees. Now really, why do you think the Dems wanted this? Of course, because they know that ALL, not some, all of the Presidents nominees would be confirmed by a up/down vote as mandated by the Constitution. Now only 3 of the nominees will get a vote and others will not and the rest are in limbo. Plus the filbuster is preserved. Oh joy! What a great deal guys . Ok, I know that the MSM is looking for ways to divert our attention away from the Newsweek mess so of course we have the NY Times and their Afgahn prisoner abuse story, we have Newsweek themselves and another Qu'ran story. Now the Washington Post has resurrected the tragic story of Corporal Pat Tillman with unexpected story angle that the military lied about the circumstances surrounding his death. But the mother of all outrages occurred last week. Was it more prisoner abuse stories? No. Was it that the government lied to us? Well I am sure there is some story somewhere, but thats not it either. No, the outrage should be at an all-time high over this! Prepare yourselves...

Very interesting catch over at Transterrestrial Musings on ABC News rewriting history related to filibusters and the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The MS never wants to tell you that the Civil Rights Act would never have passed without Republican support since Southern Democrats were opposed to the legislation. Add to that the fine fact checking done by ABC news, they take lessons from Newsweek I suppose...

It's the same person that said this; "So we're saying we think you ought to get nine votes over the 51 required. That isn't too much to ask for such a super important position. There ought to be a super vote . Don't you think so?" The first was in 1997 and the second was this year. It was said by Senator Barbara Boxer. Unbelievable, but not surprising.

Margaret Carlson in the LA Times on the Newsweek retraction: OK, so the retraction should have come quicker. But now the administration should stop trying to shift blame for the deadly protests to a magazine. It has yet to explain why the Defense Department passed up the chance to correct the source's assertion when the magazine took the unusual step of submitting the report for review prior to publication. The reporter took silence as confirmation . Oh, I get it. The reporter screws up and interprets silence is golden, goes with the story, it turns out to be bogus because the one source backs away, 17 people die. Sounds like the Pentagon's fault to me. No one excuses Newsweek. But in its long adventure in the Arab world, the administration has hatched few strategies as hollow as holding a magazine responsible for its own failings. Well it certainly sounds like you are Ms. Carlson, after all if the Pentagon had done the reporters job none of this would have happened. Right?...

Well Newsweek has admitted that their huge cover story from last week that contained among other things allegations that interrogators at the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay desecrated the Quran by flushing it down the toilet "contained some errors." Fifteen people have died as a result of protests sparked by their report in the Periscope section of the magazine which "contained some errors." Newsweek claims that they "showed the story by writers Michael Isikoff and John Barry to two Defense Department officials. One declined to respond, and the other challenged another part of the story but did not dispute the Quran charge, Whitaker said." So I guess the standard is if there is no response that must mean its true. In keeping with his wish to be everything to everyone, Sen. George Voinovich has decided to vote against John Bolton , but in order to not totally throw away his political career has agreed to send the nomination to the Senate, where he will fight for his defeat. Well if you are going to fight for his defeat in the Senate why didn't you just take care of it in committee? Because he does not want to be the sole reason for Bolton's defeat. This way he can say he supported the President and at the same time let the Senate do his dirty work. Well nice try Georgie, but John Bolton will be confirmed by the Senate anyway. What a limp-wristed decision.

Well what do you know about that, Hillary Clinton is really a nice person and really is willing to work with those nasty Republicans after all. Imagine that! And her interest in politics comes from, whatelse, her faith. Wow! Did you know that she once taught an adult Sunday school class? I didn't. Finally the military is taking action against the flood of insurgents coming over the Syrian border. Finally Senator Majority Leader Bill Frist is growing a spine on the filibustering of President Bush's judicial nominees. Looks like Texas Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen will be the nominee that Frist invokes the stupidly labeled "nuclear option".

Since the MSM is so obsessed with its bodycount scorecard and the war in Iraq I am sure you probably missed this important tidbit. April jobs surged with 274,000 new jobs added to the US market. The April jobs number was far ahead of the so-called "experts" predictions of 170,000. And to make it even better, the government revised the February and March job numbers upwards by 93,000 more jobs. Unemployment remained steady at 5.2%. Why do we constantly rely on these "experts" when they are wrong so often.

It's gotten to the point now that I can read the first paragraph of a story and tell you if its AP or Reuters based on the tone the first several paragraphs. Sometimes even the headline is the tip off. Iraqi Gov't Sworn in Amid Wave of Violence - example number one, an historic event occurs in Iraq with the first democratically elected government sworm in and all the AP can say is that it occurred before a half-empty parliament. Alleged Al-Zarqawi Letter Shows Low Morale - this one tried to trick me by sounding very pro-America in the first paragraph. Then in the second the usual content started creeping in and by the third it was back to the usual bodycount scorecard. Even if Labour Wins, Blair Faces Battle - even the UK does not escape the AP's slanted reporting, check out the first three paragraphs in this article which clearly spells out all of the possible negatives of the almost certain Blair victory in the election on Thursday. The AP has found a new way to turn an increase in Medicaid spending into a cut in spending... The budget would shave automatically increasing benefit programs by $35 billion over five years while also cutting taxes by as much as $106 billion over the same period. Ok, so lets see, we were going to increase the Medicaid budget by 30.5 billion dollars per year but instead we are going to only increase it by 27.5 billion dollars per year. Hmmm.. Yep, sounds like a cut in benefits to me.
